Thursday Night Football comes with a storyline nobody saw coming a week ago. Baltimore will start its third-string quarterback against one of the best teams in the AFC, and that changes how every player prop on the board should be approached. Baltimore’s quarterback room is in pieces. Lamar Jackson is on injured reserve after jamming his right thumb on the first snap in Buffalo, Tyler Huntley’s turf toe is reportedly season-ending, and Skylar Thompson is on IR. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano out of UConn is in line to start after going 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception and a lost fumble in relief last week.
Jacksonville rolls in at 5-2 with the league’s best point differential and a 42-7 win over the Colts fresh on the résumé. Trevor Lawrence has thrown 17 touchdowns against four interceptions. The Jaguars are favored by 9.5 on the road.
Joe Fagnano completions (lower): Baltimore will scale the playbook way down for a rookie on a short week. Expect plenty of handoffs, a handful of quick throws and very few chances downfield. Last week he completed just 10 passes in extended action, and the Ravens won’t want him dropping back 35 times.
Trevor Lawrence passing touchdowns (higher): Lawrence has been efficient and aggressive all season, and Baltimore’s secondary could be without cornerback Nate Wiggins, who’s questionable with a concussion, put did practice earlier in the week. With Fagnano likely to hand Jacksonville short fields, Lawrence should get chances in the red zone.
Trevor Lawrence pass attempts (lower): Here’s the contrarian angle. If Jacksonville takes control early, the Jaguars have no reason to keep throwing. A big lead against a rookie quarterback means a heavy dose of the run game in the second half. Lawrence can throw multiple touchdowns and still finish well under his attempts line.
Ravens rushing attempts (higher): Baltimore’s best chance is to shorten the game. Running the ball keeps Fagnano out of obvious passing downs, keeps Jacksonville’s offense on the sideline and gives the Ravens a shot to keep this within the number. Even if they fall behind, expect them to stay patient with the run longer than most teams would.
