This series has been one of the tighter ones of the playoffs. These two teams are both small market clubs, with low payrolls and high hopes. Coming into tonight’s game, the series is now tied at two games each, and with that comes the most important game of the series, Game 5. The winner of Game 5 of a 2-2 series goes on to win the series 68% of the time. In LCS context, the teams win about 81% of the time.
Let’s take a look at how these teams stacked up with their hitting stats during the regular season, and how they are looking now that they’ve made it to the American League Championship Series.
Regular Season Stats with Major League Rankings:
The Guardians won Game 1 by breaking out their bats, but neither team hit particularly well in Game 2, when a crucial error cost Cleveland. Offense was again hard to come by in Game 3, but a key home run gave the Guardians a 2-1 series lead. The Rays then capitalized on another big hit and a Guardians error last night to even the series. Now, we get Game 5.
