NOT IN MY BACKYARD: Voters across at least 10 states delivered a sweeping rebuke to data center expansion in Tuesday’s midterm elections, backing restrictions and rejecting development proposals amid growing concerns about electricity costs, land use and the rapid buildout of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
PROFIT PRESSURE: U.S. stocks plunged Thursday as investors dumped AI stocks, but market experts say Wall Street’s concerns go beyond a single bad day.
POWER STRUGGLE: President Donald Trump has thrown the federal government’s weight behind massive data center build-outs needed to power the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) boom. But a historic Democratic sweep in Texas has put one of the nation’s biggest AI infrastructure hubs under new political leadership, raising questions about the future of billions of dollars in planned investments.
CORPORATE TRIM: Google is extending its buyout program to selected workers in five additional countries as the company looks for ways to control expenses while pouring money into artificial intelligence programs.
ON HIS FEET: Former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is joining the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in a national security-related role, the organization announced on Monday.
OPINION: The key objective in economic warfare is to do more harm to your enemy than you do to yourself, and President Donald Trump is doing what every American president should do: putting America first and making sure the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cannot use our own resources against us.
OUT OF SIGHT: Ever handed someone your phone or let them use your computer to show them something, then suddenly worried about what else they might see? Maybe you’ve been using ChatGPT to work through a personal issue or plan a surprise for someone. Your conversation history can reveal quite a bit.
NEXT CHAPTER: Democrats’ takeover of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections drew mixed reactions from investors and business leaders Wednesday, with some anticipating greater economic stability and others warning of increased scrutiny of artificial intelligence and data center development.
UNDER THE MICROSCOPE: The midterm elections ushered in Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate for the next two years, along with state-level gains that could shake up oversight of artificial intelligence (AI).
AI LANDMARK: At the opening of the world’s largest energy conference in Abu Dhabi, artificial intelligence took center stage alongside oil and gas as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joined senior UAE officials for the announcement of a major partnership aimed at bringing advanced AI into the energy industry.
OPINION: The race for artificial intelligence (AI), or superintelligence, will be won not just by technology companies, but by the nation that can deliver reliable, affordable and secure electricity. America is in a high-stakes sprint to lead the world in AI. This technology will reshape our economy, strengthen national defense, transform manufacturing and determine which nations lead the next generation of innovation.
