For those of you who are unfamiliar with the situation, the state of Florida has received what can only be described as a biblical amount of rain over the past week.
Between the deluge and the King Tide affecting cities all along the Atlantic Coast of the peninsula, it’s been a soggy last couple of days in what they usually call the Sunshine State.
When the streets flood in Florida, residents are bound to see some incredibly weird stuff that would make visitors question their sanity.
But, for native Floridians, it’s just another day.
It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see alligators and even fish treating residential roads as their own personal habitat, but a woman in Fort Pierce captured video of something that left even the most seasoned veteran of Florida floods scratching their heads in disbelief.
HERO DEPUTY RESCUES WHEELCHAIR-BOUND GRANDFATHER WHO FELL INTO SHARK-INFESTED WATERWAY
A shark.
Well, maybe, but we’ll get to that.
Franshara Napoleon was picking up her daughter on Monday afternoon when she noticed “something moving in the water” at a flooded intersection at 25th and Midway Street.
GREAT WHITE SHARK MAKES TERRIFYINGLY CLOSE PASS BY FISHERMAN IN KAYAK IN SHOCKING VIDEO
“I was on my way to pick my daughter up from school before the storm got worse. I noticed something moving in the water in the flooded street so I began recording and realized it was a shark,” Napoleon said. “I was in disbelief.”
Fort Pierce is a coastal town about two hours north of Miami, so it makes sense with the flooding that a shark would find its way onto shore in some capacity, but looking at a map tells me this poor guy was a long way from home.
The intersection of Midway and 25th street is a good three miles from the intracoastal, which could mean our toothy friend here had to do quite a bit of swimming to end up there.
Then again, the St. Lucie River is right down the street, and that eventually leads to the intracoastal, so perhaps Mr. Shark took a trip up stream looking for the nearest McDonalds.
There is a different theory, though, and that is that the shark in question wasn’t a shark at all, but instead was a tarpon.
It checks out, since tarpon tend to hang out in brackish waters and it would be way more plausible to find one this far inland.
Either way, kudos to Napoleon for having the presence of mind to whip her phone out and record this encounter.
We got one hell of a video as a result of it.
